A well-travelled friend, in website form
European City Guide started over a kitchen table in 2019 - the way most projects worth doing start. A handful of weekend trips a year, notes in a shared document, friends asking us where to go for their anniversary or their parents' visit. After enough “just send me your Lisbon notes” we decided to just put them online.
The philosophy: weekends done right, not over-planned
Most travel writing tries to cover everything. We don't. A weekend is short, and the best ones are the ones where you pick three things, do them slowly, and leave room for the place to surprise you. Every guide we publish assumes you have 48 to 72 hours, and that you'd rather have one great dinner than three okay ones.
Our values
- Honest advice. If the famous spot is overrated, we'll say so. If a cheap restaurant beats a Michelin one, that goes in too.
- Real routes. Every itinerary we publish is one someone on the team actually walked.
- No fluff. We don't pad articles. If a city is a one-day trip, we'll tell you it's a one-day trip.
- Personal. First person, slightly imperfect, the way you'd actually talk about a trip.
