Cesky Krumlov is one of those places that is genuinely tiny and genuinely magical, but in summer its also genuinely overrun. Come in autumn or winter, stay overnight, and you'll have an entirely different town once the buses leave at 5pm.

- Castle tour and the painted tower.
- Evening.
- Dinner at Krcma v Satlavske, candle-lit medieval cellar.
Day 2
- Morning.
- Egon Schiele Art Centrum - he lived here briefly.
- Afternoon.
- Walk the river loop around the old town.
- Evening.
- Beer at Eggenberg brewery, easy dinner.

- Budget. Krumlov Hostel - in a 16th century building.
- Mid-range. Hotel Old Inn - on the main square.
- Splurge. Hotel Ruze - converted Jesuit college, atmospheric.

Most day-trippers leave by 5pm. Plan your photo walk for sunset - the empty streets and golden light are why you came.
