Most Instagrammable Small Towns in Europe
Various, Europe
Some Instagram-famous European towns deserve the hype. Some really, really dont. Heres our shortlist of the ones we keep going back to - and a few were honest about being mainly pretty for the photo.
Day by Day
Actually Worth It
- Morning.
- Hallstatt, Austria - go very early or stay the night.
- Afternoon.
- Colmar, France - especially in December.
- Evening.
- Cinque Terre, Italy - but pick one village and stay.
More Picks
- Morning.
- Reine, Norway - in summer for the midnight sun.
- Afternoon.
- Bibury, England - tiny, brief, but stunning.
- Evening.
- Sintra, Portugal - stay overnight to beat the day trippers.
Where to Stay
- Budget. Most of these towns are small - book the only good hostel early.
- Mid-range. Stay in the historic centre even if its pricier - thats the whole point.
- Splurge. Boutique hotels in restored buildings are common and worth it.
Where to Eat
Local taverns
Skip the photo-spot cafes, walk five minutes further.
Market mornings
Where the locals actually eat and shop.
Sunset dinners
These towns are all about light.
One local tip nobody tells you
Go in shoulder season. Hallstatt in August is a nightmare. Hallstatt in March is empty and stunning.
