Kotor Montenegro Weekend
Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor is what you imagine when someone says hidden European gem and then somehow exceeds it. The bay looks like a fjord, the old town is tiny and walkable, and the hike up the city walls is steep, sweaty, and worth every step. Just dont come in August when cruise ships swarm.
Day by Day
Day 1
- Morning.
- Arrive, drop bags, coffee in the old town.
- Afternoon.
- Walk the old town, find the cats (Kotor is famous for them).
- Evening.
- Sunset dinner at Bastion, fresh fish and a Montenegrin wine.
Day 2
- Morning.
- Hike the city walls before 9am - heat is brutal later.
- Afternoon.
- Lunch, then a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks in the bay.
- Evening.
- Easy dinner, gelato, watch the cats.
Where to Stay
- Budget. Old Town Hostel - in a 13th century palace, no joke.
- Mid-range. Casa del Mare - small, beautifully done.
- Splurge. Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort if you want big-hotel comfort.
Where to Eat
Bastion
Fish, wine, old town setting. Tourist-friendly but actually good.
Galion
On the bay, sunset views, splurge a little.
Tanjga
Local grill, no English, perfect lunch.
One local tip nobody tells you
Start the wall hike at sunrise. Bring water. Bring more water than you think you need.
