Valletta is one of those cities you can walk across in 15 minutes but spend two days exploring. Its a UNESCO site, completely walkable, and in winter the light on those limestone buildings is golden. Great cheap escape from northern grey.

Day 1
- Morning.
- Coffee at Caffe Cordina, walk down Republic Street.
- Afternoon.
- St John's Co-Cathedral - the Caravaggios are the real attraction.
- Evening.
- Sunset at Upper Barrakka Gardens, dinner at Rampila.
Day 2
- Morning.
- Ferry across to the Three Cities, walk Vittoriosa.
- Afternoon.
- Back for lunch, then Strait Street - the formerly notorious back lane.
- Evening.
- Dinner at Noni or Trattoria AD 1530 in Mdina if you have time for a side trip.
Where to Stay
- Budget. Inhawi Boutique Hostel - small, well-located.
- Mid-range. Casa Ellul - 9 rooms in a townhouse, beautifully done.
- Splurge. The Phoenicia Malta - grande dame, just outside the walls.

Old institution, beautiful frescoed ceiling.
One local tip nobody tells you
Mdina (the silent city) is 30 min away by bus and absolutely worth half a day. Go in the late afternoon when the day trippers leave.
