Winter Weekend in Vienna
Vienna, Austria
Vienna in winter is what European cities are supposed to feel like - heavy coats, fogged-up cafe windows, sachertorte at 4pm because thats what you do here. Three days is enough to fall in love with it without trying to see everything.

Day 1
- Morning.
- Coffee and apfelstrudel at Cafe Central. Don't rush it.
- Afternoon.
- Stroll the inner Ring, peek into St. Stephen's Cathedral.
- Evening.
- Christmas market at Rathausplatz - get the gluhwein, keep the mug.
Day 2
- Morning.
- Belvedere Palace for The Kiss, then walk the gardens.
- Afternoon.
- Naschmarkt for lunch, browse the stalls.
- Evening.
- Concert at Musikverein or a relaxed dinner in Neubau.
Day 3
- Morning.
- Schönbrunn Palace - go early before the crowds.
- Afternoon.
- Cafe Sperl, then a slow walk through the 7th district.
- Evening.
- Wine tavern (heuriger) in Grinzing if you have time.
Where to Stay
- Budget. Wombats City Hostel near Naschmarkt.
- Mid-range. Hotel Beethoven Wien - charming, well located.
- Splurge. Hotel Sacher - because, well, the cake.
Where to Eat
Figlmüller
Schnitzel bigger than your plate. Worth the queue.
Cafe Sperl
Old-world cafe, untouched by time.
Tian Bistro
If you need a break from heavy food, this is excellent vegetarian.
One local tip nobody tells you
Buy a Wiener Linien 72-hour pass - the metro is fast, clean, and you'll use it more than you think.
