Colmar is small enough that you can see the whole centre in a long morning, but pretty enough that youll want to stay a night anyway. Little Venice quarter is touristy but undeniable, and the Alsatian wine route starts right outside the city.

Day 1
- Morning.
- Arrive, coffee in Place de l'Ancienne Douane.
- Afternoon.
- Walk Little Venice, the Pfister House, the Maison des Tetes.
- Evening.
- Dinner at JY's or Wistub Brenner for proper Alsatian.
Day 2
- Morning.
- Unterlinden Museum - the Isenheim Altarpiece is staggering.
- Afternoon.
- Wine route villages - Eguisheim, Riquewihr - by car or wine tour.
- Evening.
- Back in Colmar for a quieter dinner.
Where to Stay
- Budget. Hotel Saint Martin - simple, central.
- Mid-range. Maison Martin Jund - winemaker's guest house, charming.
- Splurge. Hotel Le Marechal - on the canal, beautifully done.

One local tip nobody tells you
If you can, visit in December for the Christmas markets - Colmar is one of the most beautiful Christmas towns in Europe. Otherwise May-June for the flowers.
