Split in January or February gets very few visitors and thats half the appeal. The old town is built inside a Roman emperors palace, the Riva promenade catches the southern sun, and you can have a fish lunch at half the summer price.

Day by Day

Day 1

Morning.
Coffee on the Riva, walk into Diocletian's Palace.
Afternoon.
Climb the cathedral bell tower for the view.
Evening.
Dinner at Konoba Marjan or a small backstreet konoba.

Day 2

Morning.
Marjan hill walk, slow pace.
Afternoon.
Coffee in Bacvice neighbourhood, browse.
Evening.
Easy fish dinner before flying out.

Where to Stay

  • Budget. Goli & Bosi - design hostel inside the walls.
  • Mid-range. Murum Heritage Hotel - in a palace wall.
  • Splurge. Hotel Park - elegant, just outside the centre.

Where to Eat

  • Konoba Marjan

    Traditional, local, fish and meat both done well.

  • Bokeria

    Modern, market-fresh, good wine list.

  • Kantun Paulina

    Cevapi window. Standing only. The local snack.

One local tip nobody tells you

The Green Market opens early and is a great breakfast scene - get fruit and burek and eat on the steps.
